I just posted a review of my second version of this pattern last week, but this first version is much nicer and truer to the pattern design.

Pattern: Simplicity 2599 View D Top

Fabric: Soft, drapey cotton blend from Tessuti remnant table.

Date made: mid-2010

Date first worn: mid-2010

Wear again? Yes, but it always needs a press before wearing so I don't wear it much.

Sew again? Yes, but probably a different view.

Recommended? Yes, check the dart location and see if you'd prefer a fitter fit.

Sizing and alterations: Probably a 6 with a narrow back adjustment.

Fabric prep: I don't think I did.

Cutting: Eyeballed grain lines, used cheap fabric shears which are better for me than heavy metal shears.

Marking: Used white tracing paper.

Instructions: Easy to follow.

Sewing: I used french seams for the side and centre back seams and self bias binding for the armholes. The hem edge was finished with a zigzag, then turned and blind-hemmed by hand.

Conclusion: It's not as fitted as the pattern picture but it works well tucked in a skirt for work days and untucked with jeans or shorts for weekends.

Notes for future sewing:
  • Again, check the bust dart location!
  • Maybe make a fitter version next time
